KUNAL SARIN.

Two decades, one thread.

Kunal Sarin

Photographed in 2025

I'm a Principal Product Designer with 20 years of work.

The thread running through most of it is the same one: spotting the workflow inside an organisation that's quietly costing time, designing the blueprint around it, and shipping the platform that solves it. End-to-end, not a deck.

That instinct — for finding the part of a business that should be automated, and then building it — is what I bring to a room before anything else.

Most of the work has been on regulated systems and the people who use them under pressure. I built a UX practice from scratch inside a thousand-plus engineer telecom platform business, designed a mobile payment system used by one of India's larger banks, worked on Airtel's self-care app, and spent a year embedded with a US carrier on a forward-looking contact-centre platform.

More recently, the work has extended beyond design into the systems that ship around it.

I work fluently with Claude, Emergent, Figma Make, v0, and Cursor across discovery, design, and research. The VEDA case study is one example — an internal platform I scoped, designed, and shipped end-to-end. A multi-agent service blueprint I designed for a wealth-publication workflow at a fintech is another piece I'm proud of, though that one stays under wraps.

Outside of client work, I run a small algorithmic trading system on a prop firm challenge — written in MQL5 and Python, deployed on a Linux VPS, with alerts piped to my phone. I'm also building a local-first desktop tool in Rust on the side. Both are mostly an excuse to keep my engineering instincts sharp.

What I'm looking for next: Director, Head of Design, Innovation, or R&D leadership — where the line between design and engineering is allowed to blur. Open to remote, open to relocation.

ii · What I work with

The toolkit, roughly.

Tools change. The discipline behind them is what stays.

Design

  • Figma + FigJam
  • Sketch
  • Adobe Creative Suite
  • Service Blueprints
  • Design Systems
  • Accessibility WCAG 2.1 AA

AI tools

  • Claude
  • Claude Code
  • Emergent
  • Figma Make
  • v0 by Vercel
  • Cursor
  • Magic Patterns

Engineering, when needed

  • Python + FastAPI
  • TypeScript
  • Microsoft Bot Framework
  • Docker
  • Rust + Tauri
  • MQL5 for algo trading
  • SQLite + vector search

iii · What I'm looking for

The next chapter, roughly.

The role

Director of Design, Head of Design, Innovation lead, or R&D leadership — where the line between design and engineering is allowed to blur. Interfaces designed for the people who actually use the software at 9am on a Tuesday, not for screenshot juries.

Geography

Remote-global is preferred — US, UK, EU, UAE. In-person, I'd relocate to Sweden, Finland, or the Netherlands for the right team. Dubai works too.

What I bring

20 years of design across regulated systems. A practice built around shipping — not just designing. Comfort with AI-augmented workflows, including ones I architect and build myself when needed.

iv · How I work

Three things I won't budge on.

After two decades, the principles get shorter and the conviction gets stronger.

i.

Ship, don't just sketch.

A deck is not a product. Every artefact I deliver is built or buildable — and where it matters, I'll go and build it. The path from sketch to production has parts no one wants to own; that's where Director-level design actually lives.

ii.

Compliance as a peer, not a gate.

Regulated systems get ruined by treating compliance as a final-stage approval. In every regulated workflow I've designed — fintech, telecom, healthcare-adjacent — compliance was made a first-class peer in the design, not an enemy of velocity. That's why the work shipped on time.

iii.

Design for daily operators, not screenshot juries.

The best dashboards are boring. The best workflows are invisible. The best AI surfaces are the ones the user never thinks of as "AI". I design for the person using the software at 9am on a Tuesday under real-world pressure, not for the design jury at a conference.

v · Get in touch

If your team is hiring, let's talk.

Director, Head of Design, Innovation, or R&D leadership roles in regulated systems or AI-augmented workflows. Remote-global preferred; I'll relocate to Sweden, Finland, the Netherlands, or Dubai for the right team. I reply within a working day.
